But first, what is Quota 1? Quota 1 is one of the two application routes you can use when applying for admission to a higher education program in Denmark. Unlike Quota 2, which emphasizes your personal background and experience in addition to your grades, Quota 1 is primarily based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or an equivalent qualifying education.
This also means that Quota 1 follows a more traditional approach to the admission process, where your grades play a major role in determining your access to the program.
You could say that your grade point average acts as a kind of ticket to the higher education program you want to get into – if you apply through Quota 1. And if that’s the case, a good tip is to focus on getting the best grades possible during your upper secondary education.
But remember, not all programs require a GPA of 12. So if you’re not getting straight A’s, there’s no need to panic.
If you’d like to see what the GPA requirements have been over the past few years for the programs you’re considering, that information is available online. It can give you a good sense of what to aim for — or how strong your chances might be. Just keep in mind that these GPA requirements can change from year to year, so they may either go up or down by the time it’s your turn to apply.
When you apply through Quota 1, the process is relatively straightforward compared to Quota 2, which requires a motivational letter. However, a Quota 1 application should not be underestimated, as it still requires a certain level of care and attention.
You apply through optagelse.dk, where you select the study programs you wish to apply for. From there, you simply follow the step-by-step guide — it will walk you through the entire process.
As mentioned earlier, the most important element in your Quota 1 application is your grade point average. That’s why it’s crucial to have this part in order and have your exam results ready, as they need to be attached to your application.
Always pay close attention to which documents need to be attached, as they are crucial for your application to be processed. So even though the application is simple, it’s always a good idea to double-check everything you write and upload – to make sure you don’t forget anything.
Another important thing when it comes to your quota 1 application is to respect the application deadlines. If you don’t submit your application on time, it’ll take a lot of persuasion and charm to have it considered – and even then, there’s no guarantee. So remember the deadline, and set one (or three) reminders in your calendar!
Yes, you can absolutely apply through both quota 1 and quota 2. However, if you find yourself in a situation where you have to choose between quota 1 or 2, it is recommended that you apply through quota 2.
This is because many educational institutions will automatically assess your application in quota 1 as well when you apply through quota 2. So by applying through quota 2, you are covered under both admission methods.
If you hovld one of the following qualifications, you can apply through Quota 1:
As briefly mentioned in the section above, the application deadline for quota 1 is July 5 at 12:00 noon. However, it’s possible to submit your application several months in advance – so there’s no excuse to wait until the last minute.
We always recommend that you check the exact deadline with the specific programme you wish to apply for, as there may be slight variations.
A good rule of thumb is to be aware of the application deadline already towards the end of your upper secondary education or early in your gap year. This gives you plenty of time to make sure everything for your application is ready – or at the very least, that you clearly understand what it needs to include, such as the required documents to be submitted.
So, to sum it all up:
When do you receive a response for quota 1?
Once the application deadline has passed, the educational institutions begin processing the applications – a process that takes time and careful review.
Regardless of whether you applied through quota 1 or quota 2, all applicants for summer admission will receive their response on July 28.
If you’re still unsure about what quota 1 is, we recommend checking the official websites of the educational institutions. There you’ll find much more information. You can also learn more about how to apply through quota 1 – whether you’re interested in UC SYD, SDU, AAU, EASV, or FMS.
