Who is TotalEnergies?

With a long Danish heritage and our role as the largest energy producer in the Danish North Sea, we are integral to Denmark’s energy system and its future. Our commitment to innovation and sustainability positions us as a leader in the energy sector, and we aim to be in the top five producers of renewable energy by 2030.

As a global multi-energy company, we produce and market oil and LNG, new low-carbon energies, electricity and renewables. We put sustainable development at the heart of all projects and operations to contribute to people’s well-being.

What’s the funniest or most unexpected thing that has ever happened at the office?

During our 100 years celebration last year, one of the funniest and most unexpected moments occurred during a team game. To mark this milestone, we organized various fun activities. In one game, teams had to solve tasks and bring the correct answers to a designated desk by hopping on a skippy ball. The sight of professionals bouncing around was hilarious and brought out everyone’s playful side. This game not only provided laughter but also fostered teamwork. It became a cherished memory, highlighting the importance of fun and joyful activities in our workplace.

What would surprise students the most about working at your company?

Our strong network “Sprouts” was originally started by student assistants and is still run today by younger colleagues. They organize Friday bars, leisure activities, career talks, and, for example, invite members of the leadership team to come and share their experiences and career paths—providing great inspiration. A question that can reveal hidden perks or surprising aspects of your company that aren’t immediately obvious from the outside.

  • We celebrate successes continuously, both big and small, because it strengthens motivation and community. We do this through annual recognition events, visibility in newsletters, innovation awards, social celebrations, and personal recognition from leaders.
  • We are many employees, and each team has its own little traditions. Some celebrate with cake, while others, for example, have a champagne bottle balloon that gets passed around among colleagues who have distinguished themselves.
  • Since safety is our absolute core value, we dedicate an entire day to celebrating workplace safety – the World Day for Safety.
  • TotalEnergies also hosts its own award shows that celebrate innovation. Each year, prizes are awarded for Best Innovators and the Europe Innovation Awards.

Collaboration

If your company could collaborate with any famous person or organization (alive or dead), who would it be and what would you achieve together?

We would choose Edith Clarke as a collaborator for her groundbreaking work in power grid systems and energy storage. Her technical expertise would strengthen our efforts in sustainable energy integration, innovation, and promoting gender equality in the engineering field.

Challenge

What’s the least glamorous part of working at your company?

At TotalEnergies, we believe in being transparent about the realities of our work environment. While there are many rewarding aspects, there are also some less glamorous parts:

  • Periods of High Intensity: Our industry often requires working under tight deadlines and high-pressure situations, especially during critical project phases or operational challenges. These periods can be demanding but also offer opportunities for growth and learning.
  • Routine and Administrative Tasks: Like any company, we have routine tasks such as data entry, paperwork, and compliance checks. These are essential for maintaining high operational standards and regulatory compliance, even if they are not the most exciting.
  • Standby and On-Call Duties: Certain roles may require employees to be on standby or on-call to address urgent issues outside regular working hours. This is crucial for maintaining safety and reliability, despite being potentially inconvenient.
  • Adapting to Change: The energy industry is constantly evolving, requiring us to adapt to new technologies, regulations, and market conditions. This can be challenging but keeps our work dynamic and ensures we stay at the forefront of the industry.
  • Safety Protocols and Compliance: Safety is our top priority, with stringent protocols and compliance requirements. Adhering to these can sometimes feel restrictive but is essential for ensuring the well-being of our employees and communities.

By being upfront about these less glamorous aspects, we aim to provide a realistic picture of what it’s like to work at TotalEnergies. We believe that acknowledging these challenges demonstrates our integrity and commitment to transparency. Despite these challenges, we are proud of the supportive and collaborative culture we have built, which helps our employees navigate these realities and thrive in their roles.

Culture

What are you most proud of when it comes to your company’s work culture?

At TotalEnergies, we are immensely proud of our work culture, which is built on collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to sustainability. Here are some key aspects that make our work culture exceptional:

  • Commitment to Safety: Safety is at the core of everything we do, with a strong culture that emphasizes leadership, coaching, and rule compliance to ensure excellent safety performance.
  • Celebratory Culture: We celebrate successes, big or small, through social events, gatherings, and fun traditions, creating a supportive and appreciative work environment.
  • Focus on Growth: We support the professional and personal growth of our employees with individual talent development, ensuring they have the resources and opportunities to achieve their ambitions.

Tackling

How do you tackle challenges you meet?

At TotalEnergies, we believe that tackling challenges is a collaborative effort that leverages the strengths and expertise of our diverse team. Here are some key ways we work together to manage and overcome challenges, making it easier for new employees to integrate and contribute effectively:

We emphasize collaborative problem-solving by bringing together team members from various departments and backgrounds to brainstorm and develop innovative solutions. Open communication is crucial, so we maintain regular meetings and updates to ensure everyone is on the same page and can address issues promptly.

Our supportive team environment encourages team members to seek help and offer assistance, fostering mutual support. We also leverage technology and innovation to find effective solutions and keep our work dynamic and exciting.

We believe in continuous learning and development, offering various training programs and e-learning opportunities to equip employees with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle challenges. Additionally, we take a proactive approach by conducting regular reviews and assessments to anticipate issues and implement preventive measures.

By fostering a culture of collaboration, open communication, support, innovation, continuous learning, and proactive problem-solving, we make it easier for new employees to integrate and contribute effectively.
