Kongekampen is an annual dodgeball tournament in Esbjerg where students from all higher education institutions form teams and compete against each other.

It is E.1’s biggest one-day event, where students gather, have fun (and tease each other), enjoy a big outdoor party, and last but not least: find out which educational institutions and study programmes are the best in the city.

If you want, I can also polish it to sound more natural for an event website or poster in English, since a few small tweaks can make it flow better for international readers.

How to participate:

  • Gather 5–7 of your fellow students to form a team.

  • Appoint a team captain.

  • Choose a theme and the perfect theme song to present your team for the grand entrance on the day.

  • Take an (optional) creative team photo and submit it with your registration.

    Registration deadline: April 7.

If you register here before March 26, you will be entered into the competition to win Grøn Koncert tickets for the entire team.

How is Kongekampen played?

Kongekampen is a large dodgeball tournament. A match is played 5 vs 5 – although the number can change depending on how good your flattery and bribery skills are with the referee on the court.

We play with three balls. At the start of the match they are placed on the center line, and both teams run forward to grab them. This is also the only time a player is allowed to cross the center line without losing their life.

After that, the game begins. Players who are hit by a ball are out – but if you catch a ball, you both revive one of your eliminated teammates and the opponent who threw the ball is out.

The match ends when either all players on one team are out, or the time runs out – and the team with the most players remaining wins.

We have referees for all matches. They have the final and decisive say on whether a player is out and on all other rules in general.

What is the tournament structure?

All teams will be divided into different groups, where everyone plays against everyone. The top two teams from each group advance to the finals!

We all know how a knockout stage works – it’s pure sudden death, where there’s no room for losses! The matches continue until we find the two teams that will battle for the gold! And the winner doesn’t just earn bragging rights over all other study programs in town – they also take home the Kongekampen trophy, which will be displayed at your educational institution!

How do I know when I’m playing?

We always announce the matches over the loudspeakers, and you can also find the tournament schedule posted or placed around the venue. Make sure to keep an eye on when your team is playing so you don’t miss a match and risk losing by walkover!

Why have a theme and an anthem?

Have you seen the videos and pictures from last year? Then you know why a theme is a must! It’s tradition for each team to have a theme, dress up accordingly, and plan an entrance march with an epic anthem/song so everyone knows what they represent! Maybe you’ll be the Avengers, ducks, sailors – or something entirely different! It creates an amazing atmosphere, so pick something you think is fun!

We encourage both participating teams and spectators to choose a theme and dress up!

Flattery – what is it?

Did you know you can flatter the referees? You can! Flattery is just our polite way of saying you can bribe your way to 1st place 😉

The referees are usually impartial – but with a little bribery and charm, you can get them on your side. Try giving them compliments, massages, food, drinks, or whatever creative idea you have (but always respect the referees’ boundaries)! The team that excels at bribing and flattering the referees gains an advantage – so bring your best bribery game!

Why do we need a team photo?

This is your chance to show everyone how awesome you and your team are – and which theme you’ve chosen.

If you submit your photo with your registration before March 26, you will be entered into a competition to win Grøn Koncert tickets for the entire team.

On E.1’s Instagram, we will publish all team photos in carousel posts, with your team name written in the comment section.

The team name that receives the most likes in the comments will be the winning team.

Some teams choose to take a classic group photo, while others use it as an opportunity to show off their Photoshop skills. Either way, a great team photo is important if you want to win the competition.

We look forward to seeing all your team photos.

What if I get bored?

Trust us – you won’t have time to get bored.

You’ll be busy talking with other students and watching some fun matches.

And if you somehow still do? Then why not take part in some of the many other fun activities happening during the day, such as:

Flunky Ball, padel, beer bowling, giant beer pong and partying with DJs.
You can take part in competitions throughout the day with great prizes.
There will also be plenty of space to create your own activities – maybe you want to challenge someone to a football match?

As we said: Trust us – you won’t get bored.
