GET READY FOR KONGEKAMPEN THE 3RD OF MAY!

Kongekampen is an annual event in Esbjerg where students from all the higher educational institutions team up and compete against each other in a big dodgeball tournament.

Why should I participate?

Why? Because Kongekampen powered by E.1 is the biggest one-day event for students in Esbjerg! It is a day where all students gather, have fun (and make fun of each other), enjoy one big outdoor party, and last but most importantly: Find out which educational institutions and which study program is the best in the city!

You may have found friends from other programs or educational institutions when you have participated in one of our many E.1 events – and you may have discussed what each of you study. Now it is time to put it to the test: Who is the best in Esbjerg? Participate to ensure your bragging rights as the dodgeball champions of all of Esbjerg!

How is Kongekampen played?

Kongekampen is a big dodgeball tournament. A match is played 5 vs. 5 – but it can be subject to change depending on how good your flattery/bribing skills are 😉

We play with 3 balls. They are placed at the midline at the start, where both teams will run to get the balls – and that is also the only time a player can cross the midline without losing their life.

After that, the game is on! Players who are hit by a ball are out – and if you catch a ball, you both revive one of your dead teammates, and the opposing player who threw the ball is out.

The match ends when either all players on a team is out, or the time runs out – whoever has the most players left wins.

We have judges to oversee all matches – they have the only say regarding whether someone is out or not, and all the rules in general.

Are you ready to participate or do you need more information as to how it is played? If so, we are holding Kongekampen warmup practices the weeks before Kongekampen – so be sure to sign up!

How is the structure of the tournament?

All teams are put in different groups, where everyone will play against everyone. The two best teams in a group will go into the play-offs!

We all know how play-offs are played. It is a sudden death situation, where you no longer can afford to lose! The matches continue until we find the two teams to compete for gold! And whoever wins have the bragging rights over all other study programs in the city – as well as having the Kongekampen trophy displayed at your educational institution!

How do I know when to play?

We will always announce the matches on the speakers, and you can even find the tournament schedule hanging or laying around. Please make sure you know when your team is playing so you don’t miss a match and risk losing by default!

Why have a theme and anthem?

Have you seen the video and pictures from last year? Then you know why a theme is a must! It is tradition that each team have a theme, dress up accordingly and plan an inmarch with an awesome anthem/song so everyone knows what they represent! Maybe you want to be the avengers, ducks, sailors, or something else entirely! It makes for an awesome atmosphere – so choose something you will find fun!

We encourage both participating teams and spectators to create a theme and dress up!

Flattery – what is that?

Did you know you can flatter the judges? You can! Flattery is just our nicer way of saying you can bribe your way to the 1st place 😉

Judges are normally impartial – but with a bit of bribery and flattery, you can get them on your side. You can try giving them compliments, massages, food, drinks, or whatever you can come up with (But remember to also respect the judges’ boundaries)! The team who is the best at bribing and flattering the judges get an advantage – so bring your bribing A game!

Why do we need a team photo?

You of course need something to represent your team! This is your chance to make everyone aware of how awesome you and your team are – and what theme you have chosen! Now they know to keep an eye out for you the day of 😉

Some people choose to just take a picture of everyone – others use it as a chance to showcase their photoshop skills! And a good team photo is important.

What if I get bored?

Trust us – you won’t! Between talking with other students and watching the matches, you won’t have time to be bored. And on the off chance you do? Why not participate in some of the many things that is also happening, such as:

- Fun activities for all, like Flunky Ball, padel, beer bowling, giant beerpong and partying to the DJ

- Contests throughout the day with awesome prizes!

Plenty of room to create your own activities – maybe you want to challenge someone to a game of football?

Food and drinks: You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks – and there will also be a foodtruck and a bar you can find whatever you desire!

Do you want to participate?

All students from the higher educational institutions are welcome to make a team and participate in the fight for the trophy and being the best of the best in Esbjerg! So are you studying at Aalborg University, Fredericia Maskinmesterskole, Syddansk Musik Konservatorium & Skuespiller skole, Syddansk Universitet, or University College Syddanmark – assemble your best fighters and go sign up!

Do you want to spectate?

You of course want to join in on the fun! Everyone is welcome to come and spectate – but if you’re student, go sign up as a spectator, as you then will enter a draw to win a party package during the matches!
