Enhanced well-being leads to better learning. Studies indicate that Danish students experience discomfort, highlighting the need to create new solutions that contribute to a healthy and meaningful academic life. E.1 aims to enhance students’ quality of life and mental well-being through cohesive initiatives that foster well-being, community, and learning.
At E.1, we work to overcome the challenges that stand in the way of student well-being. Everyone learns and thrives best when we create the right conditions for a positive student life. That’s why our initiatives are valuable for all students – both those who are thriving and those who face bumps along the way.
Well-being is not an individual matter – it’s a shared responsibility. Students can only truly thrive when the environment around them is healthy and safe, and when they feel a sense of belonging within strong communities both inside and outside their studies. That’s why every student in Esbjerg contributes to making the city a great place to study.
Well-being is a prerequisite for learning. It creates engaged, courageous, and curious students who know their own worth. Studies, teaching, exams, student jobs, free time, and family life are all important parts of a meaningful student life. We don’t see well-being as something to “refuel” in your spare time just to have energy for your studies – it’s an integrated part of the learning journey.
E.1’s wellness concept has 5 goals. These five goals serve as guiding principles for the activities we develop and offer to students and educational institutions.
We need to create the best conditions for students to feel their own inner desire to study, learn new things, and work hard.
We must promote a culture where students confidently challenge themselves, ask “silly” questions, take risks, and learn from the unexpected. Where the goal is not to excel but to learn.
By fostering a “Growth Mindset” among students, we create optimal conditions for both well-being and high academic output in the learning context.
The goal is also aligned with E.1’s ambitions for more students to engage in partnerships with businesses.
Students in Esbjerg should feel that they are a valued part of communities.
Strong communities and meaningful relationships are a crucial resource for well-being, learning, and development—both academically and personally. These communities should not rely solely on personal preferences and chemistry (as in friendships), but also on shared academic interests, tasks, or goals.
Students in Esbjerg should feel secure in modern educational and career conditions. They should know that their educational and career choices provide them with a solid foundation to contribute to future challenges. They need to engage in activities that bring them closer to answers to questions such as:
Students in Esbjerg should have optimal conditions to feel that they are progressing. They should succeed in something that is meaningful to them personally, while also recognizing its value to others.
We need to help students concretely identify their academic and personal development, as well as set goals that align with their own purpose and autonomy regarding education and personal growth. Finally, we should create conditions for students to experience that what they can do is valuable to others. This is highlighted through, for example, interdisciplinary collaborations, project work, and partnerships with businesses.
